The area near Rome should be full of pines, the iconic stone pines (Pinus pinea) familiar from postcards and paintings. And sure, on the way I saw quite a few of them. In Mazzano, however, they are scarce. There are cypresses, spruces and all kind of flowering trees. And in the Treja river valley and its beautiful forests I have not seen a single pine tree. Up in the new part of Mazzano I found two classical pine trees (see image). Down in the old medieval town there is one pine tree, I am not sure of what species. I saw the pine already the very first evening when I arrived, and have been chatting with it daily since then, as a form of journaling, archived on the Mazzano page on RC. If I will do any ‘real’ work here, with my ‘real’ camera, I don’t know yet…
